Among the panaceas was charter schools, a ‘90s education fad that gives individual parents the right to send their children to state-approved public charter schools at public expense. Politicians reasoned that less-bureaucratic charter schools would teach students better than traditional public schools because charter schools wouldn’t be subject to the same mandates that the state had heaped upon public schools. There are a number of ways that charter schools give parents greater individual control over their childrens’ education. No longer is a child bound to attend a particular school based on the geographical location of his or her home. Parents have the freedom to select a charter school that they feel would best suit the needs of their children1. Parents also have a greater say in the affairs of charter schools compared to public schools. In many instances, parents serve on the â€Å"board of education† governing the charter school, a board whose context is determined by a school’s charter and not state law. With this announcement, Oedipus is aware that his pursuit for order has led to a life of chaos. The central thesis is that the presumption of order establishes physical, intellectual, and spiritual chaos. The text's reference to the sphinx, Oedipus, and Tiresias creates this notion. These three literal signifiers are the metaphoric symbolizers of physical, intellectual, and spiritual chaos. The concept of physical chaos is first introduced during the first speech of the priest when reference is made to the "harsh singer" (Madden 37), the sphinx. In greek mythology, the sphinx is recognised as a hybrid creature with a woman's head, a lion's body, an eagle's wings, and a serpent's tail. In reality, "the virgin with the crooked talons" (Madden 48), is a unique archetype for many things in one single being. The sphinx is an epitome of destruction and chaos who establishes "the tax [they] had to pay [her]" (Madden 17) because she devourers all who fail to answer her riddle. Her domination of Thebes causes havoc and melancholic responses that are directly related to the degree of her physical chaos. The confrontation between Oedipus and the sphinx ends with the latter destroying herself, "the winged maiden came against him: he was seen then to be skilled" (Madden 29), due to Oedipus answering her riddle. As the sphinx is the measure of highest physical chaos, so Oedipus is a measure of utmost intellectual chaos. Oedipus, being the king of Thebes, portrays qualities that signify intelligence, fortitude, and freedom from doubt. Oedipus' intelligence is prominent upon knowledge of his ill faith; Oedipus, in his present state of mind, interprets the prophecies made to him literally. This course of action assists in the accomplishment of the oracles. "[Phoebus] said [Oedipus] would be [his] mother's lover, show offspring to mankind [that] they could not look at, and be his [father's] murderer. When [Oedipus] heard this, and ever since, [he] gauged the way to Corinth by the stars alone, running to a place where [he] would never see the disgrace in the oracle's words come true." (Madden 37). His intelligence-driven fulfilment of the prophecies induced chaos because "[her] riddle wasn't for a man chancing by to interpret, prophetic art was needed" (Madden 26). The realization that "[he has] pronounced these curses on [himself]" (Madden 37) depicts how Oedipus establishes intellectual chaos because the choices he makes to secure order in his life strangely enough provoke a chaotic time to come. The mention of Tiresias in the play signifies spiritual chaos. He is a blind but wise prophet who "sees more [...] than Lord Phoebus" (Madden 24). Tiresias knows the truth about Oedipus and states: "he'll be shown a father who is also brother; to the one who bore him, son and husband; to his father, his seed-fellow and killer" (Madden 28). Tiresias has "the strength of the truth" (Madden 25) and chaos evolves when he does not speak of the truth he knows. With this, Oedipus accuses him of being "[part] of [the] plot [to murder Laius]" (Madden 26), when in reality, "[Oedipus is the] enemy" (Madden 27). Tiresias is blind due to natural causes, but when Oedipus tries to achieve his level of wisdom, all that is obtained is chaos. "[H]e snatched the pins [...] and struck [them] into [his eyeballs]" (Madden 50) in attempt to see spiritually. As she represents the lower middle class, she would not want to be equal with all the other animals as that would mean she'd have to work harder and give up her extra leeway and popularity to stoop down to the others levels. At first, she was able to stand it, but after her set time she had enough. She wanted to feel special over the others and her addiction got the best of her with seeing herself betraying the manor farm and running back to the shadow of the Soviet Union (a similar farm). This idea could also be linked to the theme of corruption as she did betray the farm and go to a different fam for more power over the animals in the sense of being loved. The final theme that is represented in Mollie is the idea of class warfare. She thinks that she was better than everyone else because she was treated specially under the care of Mr jones but did not show a sign of loyalty to him with going along with the rebellion, but her first question to snowball was whether she could still have her luxuries in life and still stay above the others not understanding that everyone was supposed to be equal. Once she found out that that was the case, she was the first and only animal to leave because of a disagreement of her social class being lowered to equal the others, she was an animal that wanted change for the sake of the others, but did not want to sacrifice her belongings to do that. She used that as an excuse to not work as hard as the other animals and finally as a reason for betraying the farm to keep her class.

The term â€Å"El Dorado† is frequently used metaphorically to describe a utopia, true love, success, or sincere happiness. There are various interpretations of what Poe was referring to in his mentioning of El Dorado. However, it is highly probable that due to the text, and the context surrounding the poem; that El Dorado is synonymous with a wanted lover, or an ideal woman suitable for the knight. Throughout the poem, Poe refers to a â€Å"shadow† which symbolizes the knight being without a partner, and the depressing, gloomy feeling he gets from being alone. In the first stanza, Poe writes â€Å"A gallant knight / In sunshine and in shadow / Had journeyed long / Singing a song / In search of El Dorado† (2-6). In these lines the shadow is used to compare the joyous, jubilant life of being in love, represented by sunshine; with an empty feeling, and deep desire for companionship. Furthermore, he stresses that the knight has experienced both the feelings of love, and loneliness; but strives to continue his endeavor of finding the love of his life. As the story progresses, the burden of searching vigorously for an acquaintance becomes increasingly evident where Poe writes â€Å"But he grew old / This knight so bold / And o’er his heart a shadow / Fell as he found / No spot of ground / That looked like El Dorado† (7-12). At this point in his life, the knight has grown old, and begins to lose hope of ever finding the perfect woman. Towards the end of the poem, the meaning of the shadow shifts from being the deep desire the knight has to find a partner, to a ghost-like illusion that he encounters which presumably serves to guide him to El Dorado. â€Å"And as his strength / Failed him at length, / He met a pilgrim shadow / â€Å"Shadow†, said he, / â€Å"Where can it be / This land of El Dorado? † (12-18). After years of searching for the ideal woman, the knight reaches his breaking point and is consulting the shadow for the pathway to his lover. The shadow instructs the knight to continue searching for El Dorado through the â€Å"Valley of the Shadow†. When looked at in context, this valley serves as a symbolic representation of the future sadness, and disappointment that awaits the knight if he wishes to continue his search for a lover. One of the most beneficial ways to understand the meaning of this poem is to analyze the context. It is imperative to have an understanding of the larger picture. When taken into consideration the time, and place in which this poem was written; it is by no means farfetched to believe that the term â€Å"El Dorado† is being used in a romantic sense, to represent true love.
